Dharmacakra, lilt. “Wheel of Dharma” or “Wheel of Law” is one of the oldest and most important known Buddhist symbols. It represents dharma, the Buddha's teaching of the path to enlightenment. The term used by Buddhist, the wheel of transformation, represents cycle of samsara that may be broken by following the Buddha's teachings.
In it’s simple form there are eight spokes within the wheel that represent the Noble Eightfold path (Ariya magga) .
Nowadays, the Dharmachakra is recognized globally as a symbol of Buddhism and appears in art in every Buddhist culture.
It is one of eight auspicious symbols of Mahayana and Vajrayana Buddhism.
